Traditions - Definition

  1. The passing down of elements of a culture from generation to generation, especially by oral communication.
  2.
    1. A mode of thought or behavior followed by a people continuously from generation to generation; a custom or usage.
    2. A set of such customs and usages viewed as a coherent body of precedents influencing the present: followed family tradition in dress and manners. See Synonyms at heritage.
  3. A body of unwritten religious precepts.
  4. A time-honored practice or set of such practices.

Traditions touch many other traits in my culture. From the food at the birthday celebration to the lighting of the candles on the Sabbath. Our family traditionally makes a very big deal of someone's birthday. It is always celebrated on the day it happens. But traditions are also things people do because they have been done for so many years.

In St. Augustine, some of the craftsmen in the village pass down their crafts by tradition, from father to son or from mother to daughter.
Each year we take part in the Toys-For-Tots fly-in and Pancake breakfast. (Again food and entertainment mixing with tradition.)
